Sony’s 5th Generation Console

On Thursday, 11th June 2020, Sony revealed their next-gen PS5 console at the end of the Future of Gaming event. The presentation also included a peek at the NBA2K21 next-gen basketball simulator, forecasting exciting times for console gamers. The company gave viewers a look at the upcoming PS5 and included the physical hardware at the ends of the presentation. Gamers had a peek at the novel DualSense controller and a full suite of gear that featured an HD camera, Pulse 3D wireless headset and controller charging station media remote. Here’s more concerning the Sony PS5 reveal.

Console Features

The PS5 was proudly displayed next to the DualSense controller revealed back in April. The set comes in an elegant black and white finish and Sony promised to avail two different versions of the console. The first will be a standard model featuring Bly-Ray drive and the second is a slim digital edition machine that requires no discs. It will rely entirely on streaming and downloads. Some have reported that the PS5 will feature a solid-state drive to replace the hard drive used in previous PlayStations and the discs will have capacity up to 100GB.

Console Accessories

The reveal presented various accessories that will be bundled together in the PS5 (hopefully). This included a charging dock for plugging the DualSense controller, HD camera, media remote and Pulse 3D-wireless headset. The DualSense controller features adaptive triggers that offer precise trigger tension for an experience much better than the old rumble tech.

NBA 2K21Presentation

Basketball lovers watching the PS5 reveal were treated to an impressive presentation of the NBA2K21, which is a next-gen basketball simulator. The presentation featured a sweaty avatar of Zion Williamson, who plays for New Orleans Pelicans. Although the short trailer did not demonstrate actual gaming, the avatar was enough to showcase what the next-gen hardware is capable of, raising the bar for realistic gaming visuals. The release is scheduled for Fall 2020, so eager fans will soon get their hands on the first-hand experience. Currently, the only glimpse of what will be possible is encapsulated in the short video trailer that shown Zion drilling and dunking the basketball with his graceful signature move.

New Games

Sony announced a series of new games for the upcoming PS5, including the sequel to the Spider-Man, Horizon Forbidden West and Resident Evil 8. Other titles announced included GTA, Ratchet & Clank (Rift Apart), AND Stray among many more.

PS5 Price And Release Date

Sony did not announce the prices or official release dates for the PS5, other than stating the console will be available later this year. However, based on what viewers were able to see during the PS5 reveal, several speculations have emerged concerning the price. Most predictions indicate the PS5 will sell for between $450 and $550, but this will have to wait for official confirmation from Sony. The company made an official announcement that the release window will be in time for Holiday 2020, which implies somewhere between October and December 2020. It also puts the release date within the same window as the X Box Series X.

Summary

PS5 reveal shut all skeptics that had forecasted anything less than impressive and set a new bar for other console providers. For PlayStation users, the next-gen gaming experience seems closer than it has been following Sony’s reveal of advanced tech features and designs. However, the brief reveal couldn’t have provided all information about the features and specs. This detail is expected in the coming days and there’s nothing but high hopes if what was revealed is anything to go by.
